How are you actually ageing? Researchers develop a new self-test

The EpiVida solution is built on epigenetics, which explores how genetics, environmental influences, and lifestyle collectively shape biological development. Factors such as diet, physical activity, sleep, and daily habits can leave measurable traces in our cells, offering valuable information about health and biological aging.

By combining epigenetic data with advanced machine learning, the EpiVida team has developed a method to identify and analyse biological patterns. The aim is to help individuals better understand how their lifestyle may influence biological aging and overall health over time.

Privacy and data security are fundamental priorities for the team. While similar solutions are available in the United States, there are fewer comparable options in Europe. EpiVida plans to store and manage all user data within the EU, providing individuals with greater control and security over their personal biological information.

The project also participated in Venture Track, Umeå University Holding’s initiative designed to support research-based ideas with strong market potential. The programme provides funding, project guidance, business development support, and opportunities to connect with investors. Through Venture Track, the EpiVida team gained valuable insights into entrepreneurship, product validation, branding, and business planning.

The team also benefited from opportunities to present the project to investors and receive feedback on its potential. These experiences have helped strengthen EpiVida’s development as it moves closer to commercialization.

Åke Brännström and Antón Carcedo Martínez are continuing to advance the project, which has now entered an important phase focused on technical validation and preparations for a planned launch in 2027.
