Biography

Dr. Ping Hu graduated from Peking University and obtained her Ph. D. from the joint graduate program of Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory and State University of New York Stony Brook. She performed her postdoc research in University of California, Berkeley/Howard Hughes Medical Instiute. Dr. Hu joined Shanghai Institute of Biochemistry and Cell Biology, Chinese Academy of Sciences as a Principal Investigator. She is also the professor of University of Chinese Academy of Sciences. Her research is focused on the hemostasis maintenance of muscular skeletal system and muscle regeneration. Her group established an in vitro long term expansion system to expand functional muscle stem cells. This work paves the road toward cell therapy of muscle degenerative diseases. Her group also performed a series of work on sarcopenia, revealed new circulating marker for sarcopenia and interplays between sarcopenia and type II diabetes.
